Because of the weather, the Spartan's road trip to WF-Rolesville was its first activity since the game against Millbrook seven days prior. The Spartans (6-3, 13-7) seemed in control the entire game building 10 point leads in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Nevertheless, the Spartans never really put away the persistent Cougars. Along with poor free throw shooting by the Spartans, 13 for 31 (42%) the Cougars were able to stay close enough to make the final minutes interesting. The Cougars hit a couple of late 3s and missed a 3 at the buzzer that would have tied the game.
Leading the Spartans in scoring were Sha'Qua Davis with 22, Blake Hoarty with 16, and JR Soto with 10.

Second Half Tough for Spartans; Varsity Falls to Millbrook

The much-anticipated rivalry game between two of the Triangle's top-ranked teams finally took place at Millbrook. The Spartans, #9 in the N&O's ranking of Triangle schools, put the Wildcats on their heels in the first quarter, leading by four going into the second. Millbrook, #1 in the N&Os ranking of Triangle schools, then turned it on outscoring the Spartans the rest of the way, 48-32. Kevin Black and DJ Turner led the Spartans in scoring with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
With the loss, the Spartans drop to 3-5 in the Cap 7 and 13-6 overall.

Schedule Changes
With WCPSS schools closed Wednesday, all athletic events are also canceled. Known make-up dates for cancelled games are below. Further details will be communicated as soon as they are available.
The varsity basketball game at Millbrook, originally scheduled for January 29, is tentatively rescheduled for Thursday, February 4, presuming that school is open on that day.
The JV basketball game at home vs Leesville, originally scheduled for February 1, has been cancelled and will not be re-scheduled.
The varsity basketball game at Leesville, originally scheduled for February 2, is rescheduled for February 8.
The JV basketball game at Wake Forest - Rolesville (Heritage Campus), scheduled for February 4, will be played but the game times have changed. The women's game will start at 4:00 PM and the men's game will start at 5:30 PM.
